In good condition A well-dressed man, most likely a priest, riding a horse in the forest at night is scared by what passes for a ghost but is, as a matter of fact, a jack-o-lantern, put up by three youngsters, who sit behind it. At the sight of the bright light coming from inside the lantern, the man gets so scared that his wig, his hat and his whip are about to fall down, he is pictured leaning backwards, probably about to fall down from the horse himself. As opposed to him, his dog is seen leaning towards the alleged ghost, barking, unafraid. The teenagers are depicted with prankish, playful looks. This frightful appearance is called the "ghost of small tythes", which might suggest the parson is scared by small "tythes" taxes imposed on people who should direct a tenth of their agricultural earning to the church. The haunting thought here is the church not receving enough contribution from the people. As a possib”
